Doug Ignite Speech

80 Years!

We couldn't be there in person, but a group Skype call was a fun way to give Dad his 80th birthday present.  We'll have the big bash this summer when we are all together.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Kids' Artwork

Here is a short video showing some of the kids' artwork that they have done over the last few years.  Amazing experiences!  Thanks, amazing art teachers!

The Hats We Wear

This super short video was looped as part of an Ignite Session (a short keynote) about the many hats we wear at ISKL. The perspective of the speech was as a dad.

High Ropes Course

As a family, we went with a couple other families to enjoy a high ropes course at Skytrex.  It was a bit of an adventure to find the place, but our trusty GPS did manage to get us there (thanks to following people who knew the way!)  We did the lowest of the three challenges, which was still plenty challenging and lots of fun!

Canopy Walk

Sadly, the attempt to create a Street View tour failed since some of the files somehow ended up corrupted - or at least are not read as PhotoSpheres by Google.

But the canopy walk at FRIM is truly spectacular!  Here is the start.  (There's 9 more of these, but for some reason they weren't linkable. .  .sigh.)

Sad, Sad Chair

Unfortunately, our delightful fake leather chair which we got a few years ago is not looking so good.  The heat and humidity, unfortunately, have been quite harsh on our chair.  So a number of lessons:
  1. Don't buy from the store that went out of business.
  2. Fake leather and Malaysian humidity do not mix very well.
  3. We will either need to toss the chair or look to reupholster.

CNY Decorations

With Chinese New Year approaching, the malls are quite packed around KL.  A friend at church said that it was important to buy new things to bring in a good and fortunate New Year, so there is lots of shopping of all the new things, according to some traditions.

The decorations (at least when we are brave enough to frequent the malls) are definitely impressive as it is the year of the ram (goat).

World Record Holder. . .Still

While at Melawati, we checked the record board.  Never in the history of the world (since they began keeping records, anyway...) has anyone at ISKL ever run 100 m faster than Reeve!

He is still holds the record, as we discovered in all its photographic glory!

Sleepover

It is always fun to have sleepovers.  Gabi got to have a friend over, and they had lots of fun.  Good times laughing and enjoying themselves.  So great to have fun friends!

Artwork

As the second trimester wrapped up, we got to see some pretty cool artwork that Reeve did as part of his middle school art class.  Impressive work with line and design.  So cool to see his progress and attention to detail when working to improve.  Congrats!

Quiz Night

We made our first trip to the PTA sponsored Quiz Night, which was quite a bit of fun.  Unfortunately, Michael Ortiz, our ringer, was away on an IB conference.  We had lots of fun, with out themed table of togas / Greek theme.  There were some unbelievably creative tables - lots of fun, for sure.

Unfortunately, our quizzing skills were quite middle of the pack.  Who knew that Canada has more miles of coastline than Indonesia?  (Probably those who won!)

Gold Medal Basketball!

While Tracy and the girls were at the track meet.  Doug was coaching Reeve's team in their end of year basketball tournament.

After falling to the rival Garden International School in the round-robin, ISKL still managed to secure a berth in the finals against the same team.  This time, ISKL came through in a much better played game, shot better, rebounded better and did not foul nearly as much!  As a result, Reeve had a key role as starting point guard in securing a dramatic victory for ISKL Panthers.

Track Meet

The girls were involved in the Mt. Kiara track meet, which was a great experience.  Hosted at Melawati, it was a great opportunity for the kids to be involved in the high jump (Rania) and 100m, 200m, and the relay.

At the end, they were proud ribbon winners as part of excellent relay teams!

At the end of the day, the whole team had a lot to celebrate!

Lip Sync Video

Here is the video of his performance. (Reeve makes his entrance at the 2:01 mark.)

Lip Sync Performance

As part of the Performance Assembly at the Middle School, Reeve's drama group helped out the Dance Corps.  Reeve played the role of the rapper, and did a super job on stage!  He might have a bright future in performance should he desire the limelight!
